A mountain trip with some people I met on the
internet. Our trip to the Desolation
Wilderness, Sierra Nevada Mtns begins. |

Our trail is rough and rocky. Don't
worry...it gets worse. |

Looking back at our starting point, Echo
Lake. |

Sure the air is thin...but the views would be
breathtaking anyway. |

All that hiking, and we finally made it to the
border of the Desolation Wilderness. Now,
we begin... |

Shorts, t-shirt, and snow. Freedom is not
from Wisconsin!!! |

She could sure use a Jeep right about now... |

Lake Aloha. I took this for my brother Dave
and his new wife Jeannie, who just got married on
Oahu May 12futha. |

We stopped for lunch at Aloha...this is my view
from where I'm sitting and eating. |

Looking back away from the lake (L-R) Freedom,
Keeter Dog, and Obi Wan Canoli. |

Sometimes the water would carve out caves and
tunnels in the the snow...very pretty, but not
where I would like to go splelunking. |

See our tracks? One slip would have led to
many profanities. This shot was taken, by
the way, just moments before we lost the trail
and ended up going an hour out of our way.
Adventure!!! |

Honestly, I can't remember the names of these
lakes. You'll just have to live with that. |

A rather treacherous stream crossing. Looks
easy, doesn't it? It wasnt. But the
only one who bit it was Keeter Dog. Luckily,
she can swim, and dogs don't complain
much. But you can bet she didn't sleep in my
tent that night... |

Here: now I can say I hiked the Pacific
Crest Trail. Dick's Pass, by the way, was
the most difficult hike we've done; the snow
completely obliterated the trail for more than a
mile--learn your map and compass, kids!!! |

We made it past the snow fields to find...more
snow melt. Now remember--water follows the
path of least resistance. In this case, the
trail. Walking in a small creek was actually
common the last day of the hike--this pic was
taken as an example of that. |

The last shot I took in the Desolation
Wilderness. Pictured in the background (top
and center) is Lake Aloha. Our trip took us
from 6,400 feet to 9,400 over the course of about
16.5 miles (plus two more if you count
when we were lost. I don't). It was a
beautiful hike and I look forward to many
more. So stay tuned! |
